Chinese space trio lands after historic trip

Three Chinese astronauts have returned to Earth after spending 13 days on a historic space mission that made their country only the third nation ever to dock a manned spacecraft to another craft in orbit.

The Shenzhou 9 space capsule landed at about 10 p.m. ET (10 a.m. Friday, Beijing time) in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China. The astronauts left the Tiangong 1 prototype space lab module a day earlier.

Their landing was broadcast live on China's state-run CCTV television network, showing the capsule streaking through the atmosphere like a meteor, deploying its main parachute, then making a final landing before rolling over on its side.

The mission, which included successful displays of manual and automatic dockings, represented an important leap forward for China's space program. The nation aims to construct a space station in orbit by the year 2020. [Photos of Shenzhou 9 Mission]

"Chinese astronauts have their own home in space now," mission commander Jing Haipeng said from space during a special call from Chinese president Hu Jintao on Tuesday. "We are proud of our country!"

While the orbital linkups are important technological achievements for China, the mission also carried a wider social impact, because it included the country's first female astronaut, 33-year-old Liu Yang. The mission was commanded by veteran Chinese astronaut Jing Haibeng. The third crew member, Liu Wang, served as the Shenzhou 9 docking pilot.

The Shenzhou 9 mission, which launched into space on June 16, accomplished China's first manned space dockings. The Shenzhou spacecraft robotically docked to Tiangong 1 on June 18. Then, on June 24, the astronauts backed their capsule away from the orbiting module and came back in for another docking under manual control.

The successful linkups made China only the third country, after the United States and Russia, to accomplish manned dockings in orbit.

The Shenzhou 9 mission, as well as experiments performed aboard Tiangong 1 throughout the flight, tested technologies that will help China fulfill its goal of building a 60-ton space station in orbit by 2020. "The data will help us improve technologies for astronauts' future, long-term stays in a space station," said Chen Shanguang, chief commander of the mission's astronaut system, according to Xinhua.

China does not have a role on the International Space Station, a 430-ton outpost in low Earth orbit that is jointly operated by 15 nations. But Chinese officials have outlined an ambitious space program for the nation, which includes collecting samples from the moon and robotically returning them to Earth before landing astronauts on the lunar surface.

The Shenzhou 9 mission is China's fourth manned spaceflight. Previous expeditions were launched in 2003, 2005 and 2008.

The Tiangong 1 test module was launched into orbit in September 2011. In November, a robotic spacecraft, called Shenzhou 8, completed the country's first unmanned space docking. According to Chinese officials, Tiangong 1 has performed well, and could play host to another crew in the near future.

"Based on current conditions, the service of Tiangong 1 can be extended," Xinhua quoted He Yu, the commander-in-chief for the Shenzhou 9 mission, as saying. "It has consumed less than one-fourth of its fuel and no backup systems have been used."

Depending on its condition, the module could remain in orbit as China continues its space station construction efforts.

"If Tiangong 1 was in perfect shape, it could work side by side with Tiangong 2, which will be launched in the future," He said.

When your child is old enough to understand what a puppy is, then there are several ways to incorporate positive pet care into your daily routine.

Treat them the same

Yes, we know, your dog is a dog; your child is your baby, but, in the eyes of your child, the pet should be treated like an equal family member. What this means is that you should try to treat the dog in similar ways as you treat your child. If the dog gets out of hand and barks or growls, then put him in the ?time out? in the same way your child would get a time out for misbehaving. Not only does this teach your toddler right from wrong but it also shows that it is not only him that has time outs.

Let your child help take care of the dog

Children love to help out and while there are some jobs that you should do yourself, there are others that your child will be happy to help with. Feeding your pet, for example, can be a joint effort as can taking him for a walk, giving him a bath and brushing his fur.

Buy your child her own ?pet.?

Children love to do what mummy does. When mummy is walking the dog at the park, your toddler will love to walk his own dog. There are plenty of different toy dogs that come with their very own accessories including a hair brush, leash, dog bowl and much more. This is a great way to encourage imaginative play and practice nurturing.

Choose dog friendly activities

Another great way to encourage the perfect friendship is to do things as a family. Leaving your dog at home every day while you and your child explore the world is not always necessary. So, why not think about activities that your dog can join in on? Going to the beach, going for a picnic and playing soccer at the park are great activities for both children and dogs. Just be sure to bring a leash, plenty of water for your dog and your child as well as a doggy bag just in case.

One important thing to remember is that not all dogs are going to happily accept this new baby into their lives, especially older dogs. If your pet has been the baby in the family for several years then having a screaming newborn that turns into a tantruming toddler is probably not going to go down well in his eyes. Make sure you always watch your child with your pet as even the most friendly dog can snap when you least expect it. However, teaching your child how to play nice with puppy will also encourage a happier existence between your two babies.

NEW DELHI:?Sania Mirza has accused the India tennis federation of using her as ?bait? to placate doubles specialist Leander Paes as discontent continues to rumble over the country?s controversial selection process for the Olympics.

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) was forced backtrack and field two men?s doubles teams for the London Games after both Mahesh Bhupathi and regular partner Rohan Bopanna refused to play with the country?s top-ranked doubles player Paes.

Last Thursday, AITA defused the row by announcing that Paes would partner Vishnu Vardhan while the Bhupathi-Bopanna partnership would remain intact for the July 27-August 12 Games.

The federation also said Paes would partner Sania Mirza in the mixed doubles, something perceived as a compromise for the men?s doubles world number seven after AITA?s plan to send the strongest men?s team on paper came undone.

??what I find disillusioning is the humiliating manner in which I was put up as a bait to try and pacify one of the disgruntled stalwarts of Indian tennis,? Mirza said in a statement late on Tuesday.

The whole episode reeked of ?male chauvinism?, the 25-year-old added, feeling she had been ?offered as compensation to partner one of the feuding champions to lure him into accepting to play with a men?s player he does not wish to play with?.

?This kind of blatant humiliation of Indian womanhood needs to be condemned even if it comes from the highest controlling body of tennis in our country,? added Mirza, who is based in Dubai following her marriage to former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik.

AITA president Anil Khanna was not available for comments.

Mirza, who prefers Bhupathi as her mixed doubles partner having won the French Open title together earlier this month, said she was ready to play with whoever she was paired with and it would not affect her performance in London.

??I can assure all my countrymen that I shall never allow these difficult circumstances to come in the way of giving my very best when the Games begin,? she said.

Mirza, who has dropped to 246th in the WTA singles rankings, won her only tournament at the Hyderabad Open in 2005 and was once ranked as high as number 27 in the world.

Constellation buying rest of Crown for $1.85B

VICTOR, N.Y. (AP) ? Constellation Brands is buying the remaining 50 percent stake of Crown Imports LLC that it doesn't already own from Anheuser-Busch for $1.85 billion, giving it more U.S. control over Corona beers and other breweries.

Shares of Constellation added $1.74, or 8 percent, to $23.50 in premarket trading on Friday.

The acquisition will make Constellation the third-biggest total beverage alcohol company in the U.S., the company said Friday. Constellation has imported, marketed and sold Modelo brands in the U.S. for nearly 20 years.

Constellation is buying the stake from Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, which on Friday announced that it was buying Constellation's joint venture partner on Crown, Grupo Modelo, for $20.1 billion.

Other beers owned by Crown Imports LLC include Corona Extra, Corona Light, Modelo Especial, Pacifico, Victoria and Negra Modelo. Constellation's brands include Simi, Svedka vodka and Robert Mondavi.

Constellation Brands Inc. will suspend a $1 billion share buyback program which is about $700 million shy of topping out.

The transaction gives Constellation and Crown complete, independent control of distribution, marketing and pricing for all Modelo brands in the U.S. InBev will handle supply continuity, product quality and new innovations.

Constellation, based in Victor, N.Y., says it has fully committed bridge financing in place for the deal. Permanent financing is expected to include a combination of revolver borrowings, a new term loan under the company's current senior credit facility and the issuance of senior notes.

The deal, which still needs regulatory approval, is expected to close during the first quarter of 2013. Constellation anticipates that the transaction will significantly add to its future earnings per share and free cash flow.

Ann Curry Leaves Today Show With Emotional Farewell Speech


Having already confirmed her departure from Today, it was business as usual for Ann Curry as she began her final day on the NBC morning show.

The anchor's voice came on the air at exactly 7 a.m. EDT, informing about raging fires in Colorado, a new diet pill and Obama's health care law.

It wasn't until 8:50 a.m. that Curry got around to her farewell announcement. And what an emotional farewell it was. Watch her speech below:

Curry is expected to be named Today anchor-at-large, which she hinted at briefly in her speech, with Savannah Guthrie likely taking over her post.

Ann was fighting back tears even as she began, "This is not easy to say, but today's going to be my last morning as regular co-host of Today."

She paused as her voice cracked.

"This is not as I expected, to ever leave this couch after 15 years, but I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch because Matt and I - and everyone who sits on this couch - we often call ourselves a family, but YOU are the real Today show family."

"You are why I have ventured into dangerous places and interviewed dictators and jumped out of planes and off of bridges and climbed mountains and landed in the South Pole and convinced the Dalai Lama to come live in our studio."

"I have loved you and I have wanted to give you the world, and I still do."

She said she'll get "a fancy new title," and "go all over the world and all over the county at a time when this country and this world needs clarity."

With increasing emotion, she went on:

"I don't even know if I can sleep in anymore after all these years! But I know whatever time I wake up, I'll be missing you. And I'll be believing in you. I love all of you, especially all of you who are behind the scenes, behind the cameras. I love you guys."

"For all of you who saw me as a ground-breaker, I'm sorry I couldn't carry the ball to the finish line, but man, I did try."

"And so to all of you who watched: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me touch yours. ... I will keep trying and I'm sorry I turned into a sob sister this morning."

At a hearing this morning in Rockville, Maryland, a Montgomery County Circuit Court granted an emergency motion on behalf of attorney/blogger Aaron Walker. The effect of the ruling will permit Walker to resume writing and speaking about convicted terrorist bomber Brett Kimberln.

Judge Nelson W. Rupp Jr. presided over today?s hearing, with attorneyReginald W. Bours III?representing Walker, who did not attend the hearing at Judicial Center in Rockville. In a brief telephone interview, Walker said that Kimberlin filed a counter-motion that did not address the First Amendment legal issues at stake, but rather ?made a bunch of new accusations? against Walker.

It is important to note that Judge Rupp?s ruling only temporarily permits Walker to speak and write about Kimberlin, pending a July 5 hearing in Maryland state appeals court. Walker is appealing a May 29 ruling by Montgomery County District Court Judge C.J. Vaughey that granted a peace order sought by Kimberlin against Walker.

Walker said he plans to file a report on today?s hearing at?his blog, Allergic to Bull. A Virginia attorney, Walker has become the center of national attention since May 17, when he published a 28,000-word blog post entitled, ?How Brett Kimberlin Tried to Frame Me for a Crime (And How You Can Help!).? Walker?s post highlighted Kimberlin?s?long-running efforts harass and intimidate bloggers who had written about Kimberlin?s criminal history.

Breitbart News contacted the Prince William County, Virginia police department to confirm the swatting. A dispatcher affirmed that police were called to the home of Mr. Walker based on a fraudulent 911 call. The individual did not take the call and could not disclose any details of the call?s content but immediately confirmed that Mr. Walker had been swatted.?

The swatting occurred hours after Walker?s hearing. A judge had modified a previous ruling that prohibited Mr. Walker from exercising his right to free speech.?

Walker told Breitbart News that he was home with his wife this evening at approximately 6:00pm when there was a ?pretty insistent? knock at his door. Walker answered to find about six police cars in the street and two officers taking positions against the wall with M4 rifles. Since he was aware of the previous swattings of Patrick ?Patterico? Frey, Erick Erickson, and Mike Stack, Mr. Walker asked the police if someone had called and claimed he had killed his wife, and police confirmed that that was the case.

In a statement to Breitbart News, Walker said,??This is obviously very upsetting but my wife and I are fine. Whoever did this had the intent to put our lives in danger.?
